The initial phase of the project was supported by the Swiss National Foundation for Scientific Research. 

Description
This project aims at establishing the most comprehensive possible list of some 6500 species of Coleoptera of Swiss fauna.  With this objective the entire collections of Swiss Museums and a significant number of European Museums which are likely to contain individuals collected in Switzerland were visited and their collections studied.

Some families aside (Cerambycidae, Buprestidae and Lucanidae for example), the data gathering is incomplete (acquisition of all available information on the labels for all the specimens examined), but focuses on acquiring the evidence of the species presence in the various Swiss cantons.

The identification of the specimens was systematically made by the best European specialists of the various families concerned

It is unfortunately known today that C Besuchet will not complete this work.  However he will make available all the documents and information collected so that this immense work can be put to value.  The CSCF and B Merz, Museum of Geneva , have decided to join their efforts to reach this goal.
